Estimated monthly cull cow prices (beef and dairy combined) averaged $84.60/cwt. in July, down $1.40/cwt. from June 2012, but still $11.00/cwt. more than July 2011 ($73.60/cwt.).
U.S. quarterly average replacement cow prices declined slightly in July. Based on USDA’s Ag Prices report, U.S. prices averaged $1,420 head, down $20 from April 2012 and down $60 from July 2012.
Among major dairy states, the average price ranged from highs of $1,600/head in Michigan and $1,560 in Wisconsin, to lows of $1,200/head in Missouri and $1,290 in Utah. Sixteen states reporting slight declines; only Iowa reported a small increase.
