It's another one of those “asterisk” reports, due to 2012 being a Leap Year.
USDA’s February 2013 U.S. Dairy Products report indicated output of many dairy products was down a little from than a year ago, but February 2013 had one less day of production.
February 2013 estimates, (compared to February 2012) include:
• Total cheese: 857.4 million lbs., unchanged.
• Italian cheese: 361.5 million lbs., -2.6%.
• Mozzarella cheese: 279.5 million lbs., -4.0%.
• American cheese: 347.0 million lbs., +1.3%.
• Cheddar cheese: 250.0 million lbs., -0.6%.
• Butter: 171.3 million lbs., +1.1%.
• Yogurt: 361.4 million lbs., -1.2%.
• Nonfat dry milk: 137.5 million lbs., -20.0%.
• Dry whey: 80.8 million lbs., -9.6%.
• Skim milk powders: 43.2 million lbs., +136.8%.
