Foreign investors own interest in 25.7 million acres of U.S. ag land
USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) released its annual publication regarding foreign investors’ holdings of United States agricultural land. The data indicates foreign investors hold an interest in 25.72 million acres of U.S. agricultural land, up about 1.5 million acres from the year before. The total is approximately 2% of all privately held U.S. agricultural land, and 1% of all land in the U.S.
The report, titled “Foreign Holdings of U.S. Agricultural Land Through December 31, 2011,” is now available on the FSA website at http://www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA/webapp?area=home&subject=ecpa&topic=afa. As its title implies, the publication contains statistics current through Dec. 31, 2011.
The publication’s findings are based on reports submitted to FSA in compliance with the Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act of 1978 (AFIDA).
