This week in DairyBusiness Update:

1) Milk production: Cow numbers and milk output per cow grew in December 2012, resulting in the highest monthly percentage year-over-year milk production increase since May. 

2) MILC details: USDA’s Farm Service Agency will offer a ‘start month’ relief period to large producers; retroactive and projected payments listed.

3) California class prices: CDFA’s temporary formulas give a small boost to prices, but have many producers looking toward a federal order.

4) Industry: Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. agreed to a $158.6 million settlement agreement in the “Southeast Milk” class action antitrust lawsuit.

5) Washington: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reintroduced the five-year farm bill approved by the full Senate last summer, but offered no timetable on Senate action.
