This week in DairyProfit Weekly: Nov. 26, 2012
Happy Thanksgiving!
This week in DairyProfit Weekly:
1) Congress is for the birds: After passing the turkey, Congress turns attention to a full plate of poultry of a different sort next week. Call it “the 12 days of lame duck.”
2) Western news: A new report describes differences in federal and California milk marketing orders; CDFA releases 2011 dairy product processing cost survey results; Washington dairies face deadline.
3) DPW Trends: Cow numbers were lower, and growth in year-over-year average monthly milk production per cow was virtually nonexistent. As a result, October 2012 U.S. milk production was down 0.1% compared to a year ago.
4) DPW Numbers: Strong crop prices translated into higher U.S. farm wages this fall, but tight margins in livestock-related operations kept the lid on increases for workers employed in those areas.
5) DPW Washington: In addition to dairy policy reform, farmers faces their own estate tax “fiscal cliff” on Jan. 1, 2013. Next LGM-Dairy sale is Nov. 30.
