Supreme and Junior Supreme Champions Will Be Named
The North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) Dairy Cattle Division is scheduled for Nov. 2-6 at the Kentucky Exposition Center. Seven breeds will conduct events, and shows will be video streamed live from Freedom Hall. They can be seen at no charge by logging onto the NAILE website during the events. In addition to national breed shows, Junior Heifer shows for each breed are also scheduled, as well as the Jersey Jug Futurity and the Guernsey Gold Futurity.
Other dairy industry activities include the Dairy Judging Contests for Youth, Junior College and Senior College divisions and the 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl.
Grand Champion Cows from all seven breeds will vie for the Supreme Champion Cow award on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The winner earns overall show honors and a $2,500 premium, which is sponsored by Kentucky Farm Bureau.
Junior Show champions compete for the Junior Show Supreme Champion Cow ($2,000 award) or the Junior Show Supreme Champion Heifer ($500 award) placing. The Junior Show supreme awards are sponsored by the Kentucky Dairy Development Council.
When approving plans for the 2012 Dairy Cattle Division, the NAILE Executive Committee added one rule change. Beginning this year, no barbed or pronged halters will be allowed.
