California 4a/4b prices announced
California September 2013 Class 4a/4b milk prices – including the boost from the California Department of Food & Agriculture’s temporary adjustment to minimum milk pricing formulas – were announced Oct. 1.
The September 2013 California Class 4a milk prices is $19.47/cwt., up 77¢ from August 2013 and $2.85 more than September 2012. It brings the 2013 average 4a price to $18.27/cwt., $3.39 more than the same period in 2012.
The September 2013 California Class 4b price is $16.65/cwt., up 33¢ from August, but 85¢ less than September 2012. The September 4b price is $1.49/cwt. less than the federal order Class III counterpart price of $18.14/cwt. The 2013 average 4b price is $16.10/cwt., up $1.44 from 2012.
September 2013 federal order Class II, III & IV milk prices are up slightly from August. September 2013 prices, compared to previous month and year, include:
• Class II: $19.78/cwt., up 51¢ from August 2013, and $2.74 more than September 2012. The 2013 Y-T-D average is $18.90/cwt., up $2.89 from January-September 2012.
• Class III: $18.14/cwt., up 23¢ from August, but 86¢ less than September 2012. The 2013 Y-T-D Class III average is $17.76/cwt., up $1.22 from January-September 2012.
• Class IV: $19.43/cwt., up 36¢ from August, and $2.02 more than September 2012. The 2013 Y-T-D average is $18.49/cwt., up $3.26 from the same period in 2012.
