Cornerstone Dairy Academy Applications Due
JUNEAU, Wis. --- Online applications for PDPW’s Cornerstone Dairy Academy™ are due Feb. 19. The inaugural event will provide critical skill development for students and early career professionals.
Cornerstone Dairy Academy was developed by Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW) to foster the development of “soft skills” that complement the technical skills of those in dairy-related careers. Soft skills refer to the suite of traits related to personality, social skills, communication abilities and attitudes.
“Employers continuously cite soft skills as a top consideration when hiring and developing new employees,” said Shelly Mayer, PDPW’s executive director. “The combination of technical and soft skills is the foundation for a successful career. Cornerstone Dairy Academy is the perfect opportunity for employees to retool their skill set and take the next step on their professional journey.”
The first Cornerstone Dairy Academy will be a two-day program beginning March 11, leading into the 2014 PDPW Business Conference, March 12-13, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis. Day one, on March 11, will be devoted to training, including teamwork skills, communicating with different personality and leadership styles, workplace habits, business etiquette and professionalism. Day two, on March 12, will incorporate sessions at the PDPW Business Conference, using the professional and networking skills developed on day one.
Featured trainers include Hank Wagner, a dairy farmer, author and leadership expert from Oconto Falls, Wis. A longtime dairy industry leader, Wagner has travelled around the globe. His message on leadership – and the power it has to change lives – will empower participants to use leadership and lifelong learning as tools for future success.
Joining Wagner and other trainers is Renea Heinrich of MorganMyers, a Waukesha-based public relations firm with expertise in agriculture and the food industry. Heinrich will use her deep knowledge of the dairy industry and communications to help participants make every interaction, professional or personal, count.
Any professional in the dairy industry as well as students pursuing dairy related careers in college and technical college programs are welcome to apply for this training. Age is not a consideration for selection. Employers may wish to urge employees to apply. The application deadline is Feb. 19.
A diverse group of 30 applicants will be selected to create a quality learning experience.
Tuition includes lodging, meals, training and admission to day one of the PDPW Business Conference, with a large percentage of the tuition for Cornerstone Dairy Academy underwritten by Professional Dairy Producers Foundation.
Program details and an online application can be completed online at www.pdpw.org or by calling 800-947-7379.
