‘Total solids’ trade balance highest ever
USDA released its monthly dairy trade estimates. May 2013 U.S. dairy product exports were equivalent to 16.9% of U.S. milk solids production for the month, the percentage figure ever. In the first five months of 2013, exports have represented 14.4% of U.S. milk solids production. California quarterly milk production costs higher
California 2013 first quarter (Q1) statewide weighted average total milk production costs were estimated at $17.69/cwt., up $1.06/cwt. compared to the same quarter in 2012, according to the July 2013 California Dairy Review. Including an allowance for management and return on investment, total costs were estimated at $9.16/cwt., up $1.07/cwt.
Compared to Q4 of 2012, total costs were down 86¢/cwt., with total costs plus allowances down 92¢.
