Cull cow prices lower
Estimated U.S. May 2013 cull cow prices (beef and dairy combined) averaged $80.10/cwt., down 80¢ from April’s revised estimate, and $7.60/cwt. less than May 2012. May 2012’s average of $87.70/cwt. was the peak for cull cow prices last year.
Current trend: Since peaking at $82.90/cwt. in March, May 2013 marked the second consecutive monthly decline in cull cow prices. The year-to-date average is $80.76/cwt., compared to $82.80/cwt. for the same period a year ago.
