December, 2012 products

December milk production was up, and so was the production of most dairy products. December 2012 U.S. dairy product production (compared to December 2011) and total year output (compared to 2011) follows:
• Total cheese: 949.3 million lbs., 2.0% more than December 2011; 2012 production: 10.861 billion lbs., up 2.5% from 2011.
• Italian cheese: 409.1 million lbs., down 0.1%; 2012: 4.629 billion lbs., up 1.2%.
• Mozzarella cheese: 322.5 million lbs., up 0.6%; 2012: 3.610 billion lbs., up 1.3%.
• American cheese: 378.3 million lbs., up 2.6%; 2012: 4.350 billion lbs., up 2.6%.
• Cheddar cheese: 273.2 million lbs., up 1.0%; 2012: 3.138 billion lbs., up 1.3%.
• Butter: 173.2 million lbs., up 4.4%; 2012: 1.857 billion lbs., up 2.6%.
• Nonfat dry milk: 157.3 million lbs., up 4.7%; 2012: 1.781 billion lbs., up 17.6%.
• Dry whey: 88.8 million lbs., up 6.6%; 2012: 1.009 billion lbs., down 0.2%.
