California Class 4a, 4b prices announced 
The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) announced the state’s August 4b cheese milk price at $16.32/cwt., up 67¢ from July, but 25¢ below August 2012. That put the 2013 4b average at $16.03/cwt., up from $14.34/cwt. at this time a year ago, and compares to $16.50/cwt. in 2011.
The August 4a butter-powder milk price is $18.70/cwt., up 9¢ from July and $3.30 above a year ago. The 2013 4a average now stands at $18.12/cwt., up from $14.66/cwt. a year ago, and compares to $19.24/cwt. in 2011.
The August prices include temporary price increases implemented by CDFA through December 2013.
Comparable August federal order prices for Class II, III & IV milk will be announced on Thursday. The July Dairy Products report is released tomorrow by USDA.
