June milk output continues upward trend

June milk output continues upward trend - - June milk production in the 23 major dairy states totaled 15.80 billion lbs., up 1.6% from June 2012, according to USDA’s monthly Milk Production report. May revised production in those states, at 16.57 billion lbs., was up 1.1% from May 2012. Looking at individual states, June 2013 production was down in only two states, California (-0.8%) and Missouri (-4.2). Largest year-to-year percentage gains were in Kansas (+9.4%), Indiana (+5.8%), Iowa (+4.5%), Colorado (+4.1%) and Florida (+4.0%). Nationally, June milk production was estimated at 16.93 billion lbs., up 1.5% from June 2012. May production, at 17.78 billion lbs., was up 1.0% from May 2012. U.S. milk production in the April-June quarter totaled 51.95 billion lbs., up 0.9% from the same quarter last year. January-March production had been down 1.1%. July 22, 2013 DairyBusiness Update
