October products: more cheese

October milk production may have been down, but more of it went into cheese vats during the month. October 2012 U.S. dairy product production (compared to October 2011 and YTD):
• Total cheese: 927.9 million lbs., 3.2% more than October 2011. 2012 YTD production: 8.997 billion lbs., up 2.6% from 2011.
• Italian cheese: 387.7 million lbs., up 0.9%. YTD: 3.834 billion lbs., up 1.5%.
• Mozzarella cheese: 297.3 million lbs., up 0.4%. YTD: 2.991 billion lbs., up 1.5%.
• American cheese: 370.6 million lbs., up 5.1%. YTD: 3.609 billion lbs., up 2.5%.
• Cheddar cheese: 263.0 million lbs., up 6.2%. YTD: 2.608 billion lbs., up 1.3%.
• Butter: 145.7 million lbs., unchanged. YTD: 1.541 billion lbs., up 3.4%.
• Nonfat dry milk: 95 million lbs., down 5.6%; YTD: 1.508 billion lbs., up 21.2%.
• Dry whey: 76 million lbs., down 1.9%; YTD: 847 million lbs., down 0.2%.
