National Farmers Union's 118th Anniversary Convention is less than two weeks away!
This year's festivities will be held at the Hyatt Regency Savannah. Located in the heart of the Savannah Historic District, the hotel has direct access to cobblestoned River Street and is just steps away from the city's historic monuments, shops, local restaurants, and live music. During breaks and evenings, attendees will have the opportunity to take in all this charming city has to offer, including ghost tours, sightseeing cruises, incredible food, and picturesque public parks.
We have an exciting lineup of speakers, activities, breakout sessions, and policy setting planned for the week:
- Notable speakers, including Matt Paul, nationally recognized expert in local, state, and federal public affairs, and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue
- Lunch and learn sessions on renewable fuels and climate-smart agriculture
- Screening of the movie Fantastic Fungi
- Breakout sessions on precision agriculture, regenerative farming, farm to table, crop insurance, political organizing, and hemp production
- Panel discussion on voting rights and black land loss moderated by Karis Gutter, Government and Industry Affairs Director for Corteva
- Debate and adoption of the 2020 NFU Policy Book
- Election of the next NFU President
- NFU Foundation ice cream fundraiser in support of the future of family agriculture
Before the convention, there will be a couple of other opportunities. On February 29th, the Forsyth Farmers Market will be celebrating Farmers Union Day, where convention participants can support local producers and buy fresh produce, pastured meats, local honey, artisan dairy and cheeses, craft breads and baked goods and a variety of prepared foods. Additionally, on the morning of March 1st, agricultural business and policy adviser Poppy Davis will be offering a free succession planning workshop.
