Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW), announces the line-up of speakers for week 79 of The Dairy Signal™. Episodes this week will focus on nutritious dairy snacks, managing respiratory disease in calves and a market and industry update.

Angie Edge, Manager – Dairy Company Communications at Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin, will share ideas to keep the entire family fueled with nutritious snacks featuring dairy foods, especially during the busy fall season.  Dr. Theresa Ollivett, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Large Animal), Assistant Professor in Food Animal Production Medicine section at University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine, will share insights on preventing respiratory illness as the temperatures and seasons change.

Dan Basse, Economist and President of AgResource Company, will return for a bi-weekly update on market, industry and export news.

Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.

The Oct. 5 episode of The Dairy Signal featured Gary Sipiorski, independent business and financial consultant and Dr. Kevin Bernhardt, Professor of Agribusiness at UW-Platteville School of Agriculture and UW-Extension Farm Management Specialist with recommendations for ending the 2021 financial year based on your income and expenses to date and projections for the next few months.  They also reviewed key financial statements as producers wrap up 2021 and look ahead to 2022.

Jason Cavadini, Agronomist/Assistant Superintendent, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Marshfield Agricultural Research Station, presented the Oct. 6 episode where he shared the latest research and best practices for composting manure and the potential benefits for soil health.  On Oct. 7, Noelle Noyes, DVM, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Population Medicine, University of Minnesota, provided an overview of rumen microbiome research and examples of how management practices can change the microbiome at various stages of an animal’s life and the potential impact on health and performance.

Each live session offers attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers through the interactive platform.

Tuesday, Oct. 12

Topic: A well-timed snack can not only combat hunger but also provide a much-needed energy boost between meals. Learn how dairy products and other foods can be paired together to provide crowd- pleasing snacks for the whole family.  Episode presenter includes:

Wednesday, Oct. 13

Topic:  It’s that time of the year when changes in weather can affect your animal’s well-being. Learn what’s new with respiratory illnesses and how to take preventative measures to combat them. Episode presenter includes:

Thursday, Oct. 14
