Implementing a nutrient management (NM) plan is one of the most effective practices farmers can use to protect their soil, water resources, and farm profitability. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) annually tracks NM plans submitted by farmers, agronomists, and agency staff. These plans adhere to the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service’s (NRCS) WI 2015-590 NM Standard and are prepared by a qualified planner, who can be the farm’s owner, operator, or a certified crop advisor. Each year, DATCP Nutrient Management staff release an annual report highlighting the acres covered by NM plans across the state. The 2023 Annual Report is now available.
