Breakfast session will focus on innovation, reinvestment and marketing for industry
The Center for Dairy Excellence and Penn State Extension Dairy Team are partnering to host a Dairy Industry Breakfast on Aug. 14 from 6:45 to 8:45 a.m. The annual breakfast session is designed for dairy producers and agribusiness representatives and will be held during Penn State’s Ag Progress Days. Registration is free and required by Aug. 6.
“The breakfast is a chance for the industry to sit down together, discuss the future of dairy in Pennsylvania, and learn how we can be successful,” said Amber Yutzy, Penn State Extension dairy herd health educator. “During this year’s session, we will be discussing how the industry is diversifying and using creativity to reach a new clientele base with Pennsylvania produced milk.”
Speakers will share innovation, reinvestment and marketing opportunities within the dairy industry and how the Pennsylvania Dairy Investment Program is offering support and spurring innovation. Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding will discuss the next steps for the Commonwealth and strategies for enhancing support and reinvestment in the dairy processing sector.
The event will also highlight two farms that are utilizing PDIP grants to provide new market opportunities for the dairy industry:
- Kelley Huff, Enchanted Acres Farm and Simpler Way Nutritionals — Huff will share their vision for showcasing Pennsylvania dairy farm families as well as ideas for meeting the growing demand for dairy-based nutraceuticals, both domestically and abroad.
- Chuck Turner, Turner Dairy Farms — Turner will discuss their vision for helping dairy farm families find success and deliver exciting new products to the consumer while setting a higher quality standard from the farm to the bottle.
“New programs supported through the Commonwealth are providing opportunities for dairy processors and producers to invest in innovation and value-added investments,” said Jayne Sebright, executive director at the Center for Dairy Excellence. “Those who attend the breakfast will have the opportunity to learn more about those efforts and the projects that are moving forward because of them.”
The breakfast will end with a panel discussion and opportunities to ask questions. The event will take place in the downstairs section of the Little Red Barn that is located on site. There is no cost to attend the breakfast, but participants must register by Aug. 6.
