Dairy Leaders Gather in Florida for Annual Meeting

Gregg Doud, President & CEO, National Milk Producers Federation

Congratulations to Jim Boyle of United Dairymen of Arizona on being appointed to the NMPF Board! Jim is the chairman of the Western States Dairy Producers Association, which MPC has been a longtime member. Also, congratulations to California dairy farmer Josh Zonneveld on his appointment!

This week, about 750 farmers and industry professionals joined us in Kissimmee, FL, for our Joint Annual Meeting. Chairman Brian Rexing and I kicked things off with a look at where dairy stands and where we’re headed, followed by a panel on the future of dairy exports and a midterm election analysis from David Wasserman of The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter. Breakout sessions covered everything from the FARM Program to ag labor reform, giving folks plenty to take home to their farms and co-ops.

Our Board of Directors also got some important work done. The board voted to support a package of improvements to Dairy Revenue Protection and Dairy Margin Coverage. The board also voted to support updating the federal standard of identity for nonfat dry milk to allow protein standardization, bringing the U.S. standard in line with the international Codex Alimentarius standard.

We welcomed High Desert Milk of Burley, ID, as our newest cooperative member. Our delegates also approved six new board members: Kevin Stockwell of Dairy Farmers of America, Derik Robinson of High Desert Milk, Josh Zonneveld of Land O’Lakes, Kevin Satterwhite of Maola Local Dairies, David Silva of Northwest Dairy Association and Jim Boyle of United Dairymen of Arizona. Satterwhite was also elected to our Executive Committee, along with Dennis Rodenbaugh of DFA. We also named Vermont dairy farmer Paul Doton of Agri-Mark and former Texas dairyman Neil Hoff, a DFA member-owner, as Honorary Directors for Life in recognition of their many years of service to our industry.

None of this happens without our sponsors, and we’re grateful to each of them: CoBank, Elanco, Golin, Ketchum, Inmar Intelligence, Merck, Messina Group Consulting Solutions, Mischief, On the Go Marketing, Paulsen, Rise, StoneX, the U.S. Dairy Export Council, Watkinson Miller PLLC, BMO, Boehringer Ingelheim, Foremost Farms USA, Cheese Market News, Cornerstone and FoodMinds.
