Online series features panel discussions with leading cheesemakers, academics and analysts
Pam Hodgson, Master Cheesemaker at Satori Cheese, Chris Renard, Owner and Master Cheesemaker of Renard’s Cheese and Rosewood Dairy, Inc., and Andy Johnson, Assistant Coordinator, Cheese Industry & Applications for the Center for Dairy Research and Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker Program Coordinator, will share details about the unique and innovative Wisconsin Master Cheese Maker Program and the resources available to dairy producers and cheesemakers.
As farms prepare for teenagers to return to farm work over the summer, Marsha Salzwedel, Project Scientist at Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation/National Farm Medicine Center and Diane Rohlman, Assistant Professor and Director of the Healthier Workforce Center of the Midwest, will provide tips and recommendations for managing this important, yet challenging, workforce.
Dan Basse, Economist and President of AgResource Company, will return to provide a bi-weekly market update and analysis of the most recent ag trends.
Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.
On May 4 , Amy Myrdal Miller, MS, RDN, FAND, Founder and President of Farmer’s Daughter Consulting, and Josie M. Rudolphi, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, shared practical tips and recommendations to reduce stress and develop habits for better mental health in today’s farming operations.
The Dairy Signal kicked off American Cheese Month on May 5 with Jake Feltz, Manager of Feltz’s Dairy Store, Ben Shibler, Cheese Manager and Head Cheesemaker at Ponderosa Farmstead, and Alise Sjostrom, President and CEO of Redhead Creamery, who shared their experiences in building and expanding their farmstead cheese operations and answering viewer questions.
Dr. Jason Kroll, Livestock Veterinarian at Lodi Veterinary Care, and Sherri Meinholz, General Manager at Blue Star Dairy Farms, joined the May 6 episode to discuss the use of ultrasounding for detecting pneumonia in calves and their experiences and real-world tips for incorporating into a calf-raising operation.
Each live session offers attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers through the interactive platform.
