Women Rooted in Agriculture: Shellbark Hollow Value-Added Goat Dairy

Penn State Extension

Tour a local farm and network with other women in agriculture! During this workshop, you will discover the benefits of a value-added business, the importance of raising dairy goats, and how to make the perfect goat cheese.

Join Penn State Extension for a day on Shellbark Hollow Farm in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania. During Women Rooted in Agriculture: Shellbark Hollow Value-Added Goat Dairy, you will learn about raising dairy goats and try their award-winning artisan goat cheeses from their herd of purebred Nubian goats.

Cheesemaker Pete Demchur operates this family-run business, making handmade cheese on-site. We will have the opportunity to tour the creamery and the farm, where Jeanne LeVasseur will discuss their animal husbandry practices. Attendees will also discuss options and how to get started in value-added ventures. A cheese tasting and lunch will be provided.

The Center for Dairy Excellence has provided grant funding to cover part of the cost of this event.
