The 53-foot, double-expandable trailer is “driven by New York dairy” and was made possible with support from family dairy farms and agriculture partners across the state, including funding provided through the New York Dairy Promotion Order Advisory Board.
Five different sections found inside the trailer include:
Dairy Farming Basics
- Understand how cows are cared for at all ages, from newborn calf to mature cow.
- Witness the texture of diverse cow bedding options and feed ingredients.
- Listen to and watch videos showing tours of the different elements of a dairy farm.
Environmental Sustainability
- Engage in a hands-on activity showing a dairy farm’s nutrient cycle.
- See imagery of the science-based stewardship practices farmers implement to protect the land and watersheds.
- Listen to and watch videos highlighting the expert partners who work with farmers to protect New York’s natural resources.
Technology
- Learn about robotic machinery and technology that help modern dairy farms remain efficient.
- Read about collars, cameras, and computers and their role in supporting cow health.
- Listen to and watch videos that feature different technologies utilized on the farm and in the fields.
Making Dairy Products
- Engage in a hands-on puzzle to learn the steps to making milk. A light will turn on with every correct puzzle piece. Witness as the wall fills with “milk” once the puzzle is complete!
- Interact with and learn about different dairy products. Scan QR codes to learn about the health benefits of milk and other products.
- Listen to and watch videos showcasing different dairy products and the steps required to make nutritious and delicious milk!
Future Farmers
- Understand the diverse career opportunities available within New York’s dairy industry.
- Immerse yourself in the touchscreen TV to witness farmer spotlights and a video by the NYS Department of Labor that showcases career opportunities in dairy.
- Listen to and watch one of the other six TVs to learn about diverse career options found on and off the farm within the state’s dairy industry.
At the end of the Mobile Dairy Experience, visitors can explore the grocery store section of the exhibit, which includes a cooler full of products and interactive barcode scanners to help practice checking out, just like in a grocery store. Outside of the exhibit, two TVs play a variety of videos, including a time-lapse of the construction of the Mobile Dairy Experience, farm information, and other testimonials.
When fully set up, the trailer transforms into more than 1,000-square-feet of exhibit space that is a full sensory experience for fairgoers and consumers to enjoy.
The Mobile Dairy Experience will be available for scheduled visits to school districts, county fairs or festivals, and other events across the state beginning in March 2025.
