The newest member of the CDCB team is a familiar one. Fiona Guinan, who served as an intern at CDCB in 2019, joined the organization in August as a Livestock Data Analytics Expert.
Fiona earned her bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science from University College Dublin and completed a master’s program at the University of Georgia, where she focused on documenting the progress made in the U.S. dairy cattle industry since the introduction of genomic selection. In 2022, Fiona began a Ph.D. Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, jointly funded by CDCB and the National Dairy Herd Information Association. Her dissertation, titled “Got Grit? Data-Driven Detection and Genetic Analysis of Consistency and Resilience in U.S. Dairy Cattle,” explored the genetics of resilience and consistency indicators in U.S. dairy cows using daily milk weights.
What interests you about working at CDCB? I am excited to work at CDCB because of its deliberately assembled and highly collaborative team, as well as its mission to support U.S. dairy farmers. I am also looking forward to the opportunity to continuing working with large-scale datasets and to apply the skills I developed during my Ph.D. to address real-world challenges in the dairy industry.
