Free online episodes offer insights to help producers make informed decisions
Lonnie Holthaus, General Manager, MilkHaus Dairy, Inc., Fennimore, Wis., Tammy Fritsch, Owner/Plant Manager, Two Guernsey Girls Creamery, Freedom, Wis., and Dr. John Lucey, PhD, Director of Center for Dairy Research, Professor of Food Science at UW-Madison, will discuss growing demand and experiences with on-farm processing of A2 milk.
Dr. Nigel Cook, DVM, Professor in Food Animal Production Medicine at UW-Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine; Chair of the Department of Medical Sciences and Mike Larson, President and Dairy Manager, Larson Acres, Inc. will provide insights on designing ventilation systems to keep cows cool.
Dan Basse, Economist and President of AgResource Company, will return with his bi-weekly update with timely insights on market conditions and industry news.
Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.
Christopher Clayton, Agricultural Runoff Section Chief, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, joined The Dairy Signal on Aug. 10 with an overview of the state’s administrative rule process and an update on ch. NR 151. This administrative rule is part of the effort to address groundwater issues and protect drinking water and public health across Wisconsin, and public comments are currently being accepted on the economic impact, with another round of public comments beginning this fall.
On Aug. 11, Chief Gerald Minor, Pittsville Fire Department, and Ron Naab, Allenton Fire Department, led an interactive discussion with recommendations for building relationships with local fire and rescue departments, as well as tips for preventing common farm hazards like grain entrapment, manure and silo gas incidents and more.
The Aug. 12 episode featured Gary Sipiorski, independent business and financial consultant and Dr. Kevin Bernhardt, Professor of Agribusiness at UW-Platteville School of Agriculture and UW-Extension Farm Management Specialist, with financial and management advice for those interested in getting started in the dairy industry.
Each live session offers attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers through the interactive platform.

Tuesday, August 17
Topic: A2 milk has attracted attention from both consumers and dairy producers, due to its ease of digestion. Hear from two dairy producers about their experiences investing in on-farm processing of A2 milk and cheese. Episode presenters include:
