The Northeast’s Largest Independent Dairy Feed Mill Makes Its First Expansion in Company History and Largest Capital Investment to Date.
CNY Feeds, the largest independent dairy feed mill in New York, has broken ground on a state-of-the-art dairy feed blending facility in Avon, N.Y. The project marks the company’s first geographic expansion in its 35-year history and the Bitz family’s largest capital investment in their nearly 200 year history in New York agriculture. Construction is expected to run through 2026, with the facility scheduled to begin serving dairy farms in summer 2027. The project is expected to create as many as 15 new jobs in Livingston County.
“Our focus is on serving farmers first and foremost, as we were once farmers ourselves,” said Karl Bitz, president of CNY Feeds. “We appreciate how challenging it is to operate a farm, and we take pride in being the partner that makes it easier for farms to be successful. We’ve been running that way in Central New York for 35 years and are excited to bring that approach west.”
The company grew out of the Bitz family’s turkey farming operation Plainville Turkey Farm, where the mill originally supplied the family’s turkeys. Feed was a cost to manage, not a product to sell, and it needed to be done right, with quality ingredients and reliable service. That experience shaped what the company would become.
Today, CNY Feeds is 100% dairy focused, and the members of that cooperative have remained customers ever since. More than 90 of the largest and best performing dairy farms now buy their feed from CNY Feeds. As CNY Feeds does not staff a sales department, growth has come entirely through word-of-mouth referrals.
The Avon facility will operate under the same model that built the Jordan mill: exact ingredients with no substitutions, competitive prices with no games and best-price-first bids, and the consistent, reliable service CNY Feeds has staked its name on.
CNY Feeds is a third-generation, family-owned dairy feed mill headquartered in Jordan, N.Y. Founded in 1990, the company operates the largest independent dairy feed mill in New York, feeding more than 125,000 cows daily. CNY Feeds mixes high-performance dairy feed to farmers’ exact specifications and offers a best-price-first quote on every order. The Avon facility, scheduled to open in summer 2027, will bring the same model to Western New York dairy operations. Learn more at cnyfeeds.com.
