Farm Bureau made sure agriculture was not overlooked

Zippy Duvall President, American Farm Bureau Federation

As you have hopefully already seen and heard in the news, Congress passed a bill with strong bipartisan support that includes a three-month Continuing Resolution (CR) funding the government through March, a one-year farm bill extension, natural disaster aid and agriculture economic assistance.

The negotiated package went from including nothing for agriculture one week ago, to agriculture spending being the only addition to the bill when it was ultimately approved by both the United States House of Representatives and Senate. Farm Bureau led this industry-wide effort, and together – AFBF, state Farm Bureaus and our individual members across the country – we achieved a successful outcome.

This was a strong advocacy effort involving grassroots members like yourself alongside state and national Farm Bureau leaders and staff. Many others, including congressional staff, allied organizations and state officials weighed in with legislative leaders to help make the difference. But one thing is clear, Congress heard from Farm Bureau to the tune of more than 10,000 contacts, and they became convinced agriculture must not be overlooked. That’s powerful.

Just like on my farm back in Georgia, Farm Bureau always has a list of things to do. And we are working diligently to prepare for lawmakers’ return to Washington and to quickly engage the new Administration as they settle in. Farm Bureau’s got your back.

I know my family is ready to gather together, celebrate the season and count our blessings. I hope yours is too. And if you have a quick minute to spare, I invite you to contact your Senators and Representative and thank them for supporting agriculture in the end-of-year package.

Thank you again. I wish you a joyous holiday season and a prosperous new year!
