Center for Dairy Excellence

Whether you want to build a new calving barn, install robotic milking technology, enhance cow comfort with a new bedding system, make a processing expansion, or evaluate a major financial decision for your dairy operation, there are several grant opportunities opening for PA dairy producers and processors on September 1. The Center leverages funds provided by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to offer these grant programs.

  • Dairy Excellence Grants – If you are looking to improve cow comfort, milk production per cow, or efficiency on your dairy, this grant supports improvement projects on your dairy operation. This is a competitive grant program, and you must apply by September 30.
  • Technical Assistance Grants for Value-Added & Direct Marketing (NEW) – If you are a dairy farm looking to build your brand, improve consumer access to locally-produced foods, and work with a consultant in the value-added & direct marketing space, consider applying for a Technical Assistance Grant. This grant provides financial assistance to help dairy farms and small-scale dairy businesses in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey access private consulting resources to build your brand. This is a competitive grant program, and you must apply by October 15.
  • Dairy Processing Grants – If you are Pennsylvania-based dairy processor who wants to make a processing expansion, improvement or innovation, consider applying for a Dairy Processing Grant. Qualifying expenses would be design, planning and implementation costs associated with the improvement project. This is a competitive grant program, and you must apply by November 1.
  • Dairy Decisions Consultants (DDC) Grants – This program provides dairy farm families with professional consulting resources to help make decisions that shape the future of their farm. The Center offers a list of 22 consultants who can work with farms in one of six key areas. Applications open on Sept. 1, and grants will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Team Program Grants – If you’re looking to improve profitability, create a transition plan, or plan a major business transformation on your dairy, this program allows dairy producers to establish on-farm teams and take advantage of professional consulting resources to make strategic decisions at the farm level. Applications open on Sept. 1, and grants will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
