Penn State Extension Announces New Farm Energy Resource

One of the notable features of this year’s PA Energy and Agriculture Conference (06 November, Camp Hill, PA) is that Penn State Extension will be releasing the first ever edition of the Pennsylvania Energy Guide.

Designed to be the go-to reference for farm energy information, the Energy Guide consists of a wide array of articles on topics ranging from energy crop production to energy efficiency for farms to biogas from digesters to solar energy leasing to community connections for energy.

All attendees to the PA Energy and Agriculture Conference will receive a complimentary “pre-public” copy of the guide, and many of the sessions at the conference will reference the information contained in its pages. Topics to be covered at the conference include:

  • Energy Use Patterns
  • Solar Energy on the Farm
  • Improving Farm Energy Efficiency
  • Farm Biogas Systems
  • Wind Energy Opportunities
  • Funding and Technical Support for Farm Energy

“We’re really excited to have the Energy Guide available to Pennsylvania farmers and farm businesses,” said guide editor Dana Ollendyke. “It has been several years in the making, and represents decades of combined experience and expertise on farm energy.” The guide contains fundamental reference information on farm energy, as well as updates on trends and developments, and several useful worksheets that farmers can use to assess and make decisions about their farm operations. Guide author Dan Brockett added, “This guide is intended to be a regularly updated product of the Extension Energy team, and will help our farmers stay up to date on how they can be more successful.”

The PA Energy Guide is a publication of Penn State Extension, and the guide will soon be available to the general public for purchase. But for now, those who attend the conference will be the first to see and own a copy of the PA Farm Energy Guide. In addition, authors of the guide’s articles will be on hand at the conference to answer questions and talk with attendees about the opportunities for farm energy. Guide author Tom Beresnyak noted “I’m really looking forward to sharing the guide with people at the conference, and hearing about their questions and ideas.” To register for the one day conference, visit Conference website.
