New test to be introduced at World Dairy Expo to help growers and sellers quantify the quality of their alfalfa stands

Dr. David Weakley highlights the importance of alfalfa leaves and how to capture their value

 

WHAT: Forage Genetics International (FGI), a leader in forage innovation, recently developed the novel Leaves Enhance Alfalfa Forage (LEAF) test to identify and measure a major source of quality variation in alfalfa: the leaves. Leaf percentage in alfalfa stands account for 77% of the variation in forage quality. This LEAF test can serve as a guide for management decisions and help growers track year-over-year performance as well as inform sellers with objective data on the genetics they offer. You are invited to learn more about the test and how growers can use its results at World Dairy Expo. By developing this percent leaf prediction equation, FGI supports farmers with a novel way for them to quantify their alfalfa quality and monitor their management practices.
