On September 29th at the World Dairy Expo, the team behind the grain entrapment film, SILO, will be screening the premiere episode of their newest fictional project about agriculture, the 6-part limited TV series, Perfect Sundays. The show’s producer and creator, Sam Goldberg, will be joined by movie and TV star, Jim Parrack, for a presentation about the seriesand its innovative approach to using fictional storytelling as an emotional outlet for American farmers.
Perfect Sundays is a fictional, six-episode TV series about family, farming, faith, and community.
Perfect Sundays captures the journey of a family that digs its way out of economic ruin and emotional paralysis. The story is familiar to farmers, no doubt, but also to anyone who recognizes the internal battles of depression and its devastating effects on a family. Set in the heart of rural America, this series makes universal the story of one farm family who knows they must keep trying despite it all. Now, they just have to agree on how.
Like its predecessor, SILO, Perfect Sundays is a filmmaking phenomenon with a mission to cultivate community through the power of storytelling. The authentic, documentary-style research that went into the series’ production manifested into a high-level, cinematicexperience that prioritized community in every aspect of its ambitious vision. From funding to filming, countless individuals, animals, farms, organizations, and partners joined together to bring Perfect Sundays to life. The TV series strives to drive social impact by cultivating community and adding value.
“Our goal is to bypass the brain and go straight to the heart.” Says Sam Goldberg, creator and producer of the show. “Too often we can get stuck in a cycle of conversation around mental health, but there is something uniquely cathartic for farmers when they watch a fictional version of themselves on screen. Perfect Sundays, being as authentic as it is, provides an emotional outlet – and a conduit for conversation – that is often hard to find. We are grateful for partners like LELY, and the World Dairy Expo leadership, for seeing the potential in this project.”
To watch Perfect Sundays, fans can engage in their local communities to host events in whatever mode available to them — from churches and high school auditoriums — to local movie theatres and other cultural institutions. And until the end of the year, the show is also available to stream directly from the Perfect Sundays website for those who cannot make it to a local, in-person event. For World Dairy Expo attendees the team behind the series created a special discount code “WDE” for those interested in streaming the series from home.
