Walmart is Bringing a New Way to Enjoy Dairy

More than 1,000 stores across the midwest

The new format is attracting Gen Z and consumers seeking natural, sustainable products

A dairy-based sports drink that’s become the secret weapon of professional athletes and elite competitors because of its natural ingredient profile and hydration superiority will now be readily available to consumers across the Midwest. GoodSport sports drink contains only ingredients from natural sources, has 3x the electrolytes and 33% less sugar than traditional sports drinks. It has been shown to provide rapid and long-lasting hydration and improve exercise performance by harnessing the electrolytes and carbohydrates found in milk.

“It will come as no surprise to the dairy industry that milk is more hydrating than water and sports drinks. GoodSport uses ultrafiltration to deliver milk’s hydration benefits in a clear, all natural and refreshing sports drink,” says Iowa dairy farmer, Dan Venteicher.

GoodSport is an official hydrator of the Chicago Sky and is used widely by professional athletes across sports leagues. “It’s fun watching the playoffs and seeing teams and athletes that order our product – it’s hard to know who to root for,” says GoodSport Nutrition Founder & CEO, Michelle McBride.

The patent-pending formula leans on ultrafiltration to remove milk’s protein and is produced sustainably by using a nutrient-rich byproduct of the process. GoodSport is now Upcycled Food Certified.

Upcycled food means reducing food waste by creating high quality, nutritious foods and beverages from the nutrients that slip through the cracks of our food system. It’s an important trend as consumers are becoming increasingly aware of food waste and seeking products with sustainability claims, especially Gen Z who over-index in the sports drink category.

McBride was inspired to create GoodSport by the chocolate milk she gave her son after his sports. Looking for a source of hydration before and during a workout led her to work with scientific experts, including the Center for Dairy Research at the University of Wisconsin, to create GoodSport.

The brand launched in premium grocery retailers in the Chicagoland area when it caught the attention of Walmart. “Like Walmart, we want people to live better. GoodSport® is available four refreshing flavors in 16.9-ounce bottles: Lemon Lime, Fruit Punch, Wild Berry and Citrus and will be available in Walmart locations in: Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Nebraska, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Dakota, South Dakota and West Virginia.
