Background
Senate Bill (SB) 1383 (Lara, Chapter 395, Statutes of 2016) requires the reduction of short-lived climate pollutants from multiple sectors, including specific direction to reduce overall methane emissions by 40 percent below 2013 levels by 2030 and at dairy and livestock operations by the same percentage. To date, CARB and other State agencies have coordinated to implement legislative direction, engage stakeholders, and achieve the 2030 methane emissions reductions target. More information on methane emissions reductions from the California dairy and livestock sector is available on the Short-Lived Climate Pollutants webpage.
