2022 Visit the Farm Day

Save the date for behind-the-scenes experience: October 1, 2022

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s Agriculture Program is excited to invite you and your family to attend the Visit the Farm Day event on Saturday, October 1^st, 2022, at Brehm Farms Inc., located at 3456 Dry Brook Road, Falconer, NY 14733. The event is family friendly and free for all ages!  Guided walking tours of the farm will be held from 11:00am through 3:00pm. The tour will include informational and interactive stations that provide opportunities to learn about caring for baby calves, feeding, and housing for dairy cows, farm equipment, crops, and how cows are milked at Brehm Farms. Additional educational displays will be available to visit which will highlight other areas of agriculture, including grapes and livestock. There will be free samples of milk, string cheese, and grape juice, all produced from goods right here in Chautauqua County! Admission and parking are free, and the event will occur rain or shine. This educational and fun event is co-sponsored by local agricultural businesses.

Brehm Farms in Falconer has been owned and operated by Bradley and Jessica Brehm for the past six years. The dairy farm was previously owned and operated by the Kimball family for 166 years, from 1847-2013. The Brehm’s started farming in southern Erie County, NY in 2012 and moved to Chautauqua County to purchase the established and productive farm to continue to develop their dairy herd. The Brehm’s milk 155 cows including Holsteins, Jerseys, Brown Swiss and Lineback breeds of dairy cattle. They also raise 80 replacement calves and heifers. The Brehm’s high quality milk is marketed through Upstate Niagara Milk Cooperative and can be purchased locally. Guests at the Visit the Farm Day will be treated with complimentary fresh, delicious milk provided by Upstate Niagara Milk Cooperative.

Bradley & Jessica Brehm rotationally graze their dairy cattle on 50 acres in the spring, summer & fall to provide the herd high quality fresh forages, exercise, sunshine & fresh air daily. They grow corn silage and haylage on 500 acres for their dairy herd and store the forages in bunk silos on the farm. The herd is housed in a free stall barn during the winter months, allowing the cows to move freely throughout the barn and be comfortable.

Bradley & Jessica credit their family members, friends, and neighbors who assist them with daily chores on the farm. They work together to properly care for their cows and their land to produce high quality nutritious milk for local consumers to enjoy. The Brehm family welcomes visitors to their farm to learn more about their way of life working in agriculture and an opportunity to tour a working dairy farm.
