On July 15th, the USDA published a 5-part recommended decision for Federal Milk Marketing Order (FMMO) price formula changes. Most notable are: 1) Restoration of the higher-of formula for the Class I base skim milk price (mover), with a second average-of mover for extended shelf life (ESL) fluid milk products; and 2) Proposed increases in processor make allowances, which would equate to a 75 cents to $1.00 per hundredweight milk check deduction, embedded in end-product pricing formulas. Other changes include updates to milk composition standards and butterfat recovery in cheesemaking, along with updates to Class I differentials, and discontinuation of the 500-pound barrel cheese price series.
