Get HPAI Updates and Cold-Weather Tips for Ventilation & Youngstock Growth
With fall and winter quickly approaching, join the Center for Dairy Excellence’s next “All Things Dairy” monthly conference call on Wednesday, October 8, at 1 p.m. EST. Speakers from Penn State Extension and the PA Department of Agriculture will provide tips for maintaining average daily gain through the winter months, advice on how to ensure ventilation while controlling moisture, and an update on HPAI and New World Screwworm. These monthly calls aim to provide a platform for organizations and industry partners to share timely updates, resources, programs, and upcoming events relevant to the dairy community.
During the October 8th call next week, you will hear:
- HPAI and New World Screwworm detections. Dr. Erin Luley from the PA Department of Agriculture will offer updates on biosecurity threats, with a new HPAI detection in dairy cattle in Nebraska and New World Screwworm getting closer to the U.S.
- Maintaining average daily gain through the winter months. Jim Lawhead from Penn State Extension will discuss the youngstock of the farm and how to maintain their nutritional requirements – while not compromising growth – through the winter months.
- Ensuring ventilation while controlling moisture. John Tyson from Penn State Extension will discuss controlling moisture in animal housing this winter to avoid respiratory illness in calves, heifers and cows.
