Center for Dairy Excellence

Join us for the next “All Things Dairy” monthly conference call happening TODAY, Wednesday, November 19 at 1 p.m. EST. A Pennsylvania dairy producer, local fire company chief, and an educator from Penn State Extension will provide fire safety and prevention tips, firsthand perspective, and advice for emergency preparedness planning. These monthly calls aim to provide a platform for organizations and industry partners to share timely updates, resources, programs, and upcoming events relevant to the dairy community.

During tomorrow’s call, you will hear:

  • Personal story about a parlor fire on a PA dairy farm. Jennifer Metzler of Pleasant View Farms in Blair County, Pennsylvania will talk about an unexpected parlor fire, the aftermath, and recovery for their 3,700-cow herd. Jennifer will share the on-the-spot decisions her family had to make and steps they’ve taken to prevent this type of emergency from happening again.
  • Fire safety and prevention tips from a local fire chief. Randy Acker, the Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Company Chief, will talk through fire safety and prevention tips. Specifically for dairy producers, he will offer advice for barns and silos and share firsthand accounts.
  • Emergency response planning tips. Greg Martin from Penn State Extension will dive into emergency response planning, what that entails, what it might look like for your dairy farm, and how to make emergency preparedness a priority.
