“As a grassroots dairy farmer-led organization, we want to work with incoming USDA and HHS Secretaries to fix food nutrition policy, such as a long overdue reform of the Dietary Guidelines that govern school meals where children have been prohibited from choosing whole milk and 2% milk since 2010. Children are only permitted by USDA to have fat-free or 1% low-fat milk, which they often discard,” says Fischer. “In the current nutrition regulatory environment, essential vitamins and minerals are under-consumed while sugar, artificial sweeteners, and other additives are over-consumed. Ultra-processed foods dominate school meals over many nutrient-dense foods because of USDA’s low-fat prescriptions.
Brooke Rollins previously served on Trump’s 2016 Economic Advisory Council. In addition to serving as Director of the Office of American Innovation, she was Director of Domestic Policy Council and Assistant to the President for Strategic Initiatives in Trump’s first administration. Rollins has spent the past four years as a founder and CEO of the America First Policy Institute and America First Works, according to Trump’s statement Nov. 23.
Trump highlighted Rollins’ “commitment to the American Farmer, defense of American Food Self-Sufficiency, and restoration of Agriculture-dependent American Small Towns that is second to none,” said Trump. “As our next Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke will spearhead the effort to protect American Farmers, who are truly the backbone of our Country.”
Rollins earned a BS in Agriculture Development at Texas A&M. She grew up in the small Ag-centered town of Glen Rose, Texas where she was involved in leadership with FFA and 4-H. Trump noted Rollins’ generational family farming background and guiding her children in cattle showing. He touted her practitioner’s experience and policy credentials with nonprofit and governmental leadership at the state and federal levels.
