Like farming, milk hauling is often a multi-generational business.
For the Kalina family, it all began when Jim Kalina started hauling milk for some neighbors in the early 1950’s. He liked it. So when he graduated high school, he bought a few trucks and kept hauling.
After a tour of duty in the military, he arrived back home and realized his younger brothers were also interested in farming. So he bought a full-time milk-hauling route, and the rest is history. Jim started hauling for AMPI soon after its formation in 1969.
Today, Jim’s son Tom hauls milk full-time for the family business. Tom’s sons, Joe, Max, and Marty help with maintenance and haul occasionally to give Tom a well-deserved day off.
The Kalina family hauls milk for farms in the Faribault and Northfield, Minn. area.
