This is a reminder that annual CFO invoices ($100 per permit) will begin mailing on July 1, 2025. These will be issued as individual invoices per permit.
For example: If your operation holds three IDEM permits, you will receive three separate $100 invoices.
Invoices will be mailed to the entity listed as the farm owner. If your operation has any outstanding invoices from 2023 or 2024, you will also receive a notice regarding those overdue amounts.
I would like to provide a clarification regarding the implementation of Senate Enrolled Act 193 (SEA 193), which takes effect July 1, 2025, and outlines new requirements for mandatory on-site inspections of Confined Feeding Operations (CFOs).
1. Initial Inspection(new projects):
IDEM will conduct one on-site inspection within 90 days after receiving the affidavit of construction or expansion from the CFO permittee.
2. Renewal Inspection:
IDEM will conduct one on-site inspection within 45 days before or after the permit renewal date, providing a 90-day inspection window for renewed permits.
These inspections are now required by statute and are intended to improve transparency and consistency in regulatory oversight. Additional inspections may still occur if triggered by complaints or other risk-based concerns.
Sincerely,
Steve Obert
