Bob Gray announces retirement

I’m Retiring!

 

By this time most of you have probably already heard that I am planning on retiring at the end of June. Pam and I have purchased a home in Knoxville, Tennessee in a community just west of the city – – McFee Manor. It has a big back yard for Mia and Willow so they will be very happy.

We chose this location since we have relatives and friends who are close by and we are near the Great Smokey Mountains which are just beautiful.

After working for all of you for 30 years, the thought of retiring I must say is somewhat bittersweet.

But at the age of 81, it is time for me to hang up my spurs. Maggie McHugh, who has worked with me faithfully for well over twenty years and done a terrific job, is retiring as well. As I look back on all of the legislative and regulatory battles that have been fought here in D.C. over the last many years I am struck by the fact that I felt I gave my utmost in keeping your best interests at heart.

Most importantly, however, is that it has been an honor and a privilege on my part to have represented you here in Washington for all of these years. You are the most honest, hard working, decent and respectable people on this planet. I have always been very proud to tell anyone who asked that I represent dairy farmers and the cooperatives that they own. The NDFC dairy cooperatives have been extremely professional and most enjoyable to work with. They have done a tremendous job in developing good dairy markets and offering a host of other services for their producer members.

The dairy business as you well know much better than I do is a challenge. There are so many variables that effect farm milk prices.
