By working together, we are making progress. Our Mobility Workshop was a big success, and we will build on this concept for other topics. It is obvious we dairy farmers like learning in a barn more than a classroom. The Spanish language leadership training has gone so well we will start a new class in early November, “Success on the Farm Begins with You,” and then offer other classes in this series.
Advocacy continues on the national scene and I’ll be part of a “fly in” to Washington DC to advocate for work permits for our workforce. We continue to focus on immigration and finding a way to urge our lawmakers to chisel out a program that can stabilize and secure our workforce. I’ll also attend the DMI/NMPF national milk meeting in Dallas in early November to represent our interests.
It is important to stay engaged at the national level, yet we don’t want those issues to consume us as we work on making an impact here in Indiana at the state and local level. Your IDP Board is feeling good about our success and are pleased we’ve achieved some of our policy priorities of recent years. In fact, once we get through this busy fall time, we will be seeking your feedback on priorities going forward to be sure we are putting our weight behind issues that matter most to you.
The Indiana Dairy industry is poised for significant growth, with promising developments ahead that inspire genuine excitement. It will be important we build on our success and continue to advocate for our farms’ futures.
