The U.S. Championship Cheese Contest has shattered its previous record for the total number of entries registered. Event organizers say cheesemakers from across the country have submitted 2,555 entries for evaluation in the contest, set for March 5-7 in Green Bay.
“The U.S. Championship Cheese Contest has grown steadily over the past two decades,” said Kirsten Strohmenger of the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, which is coordinating the event. “We’ve added several new classes this year as a way to reflect the emerging trends in the industry and that’s part of the reason we’re seeing an increase in entries.”
Meanwhile, the public is welcome to observe the judges at work between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lambeau Field Atrium in Green Bay. There is no charge to attend the event.
The competition has been held biennially since 1981.
