Chester County 4-H Dairy Round Up

Thirty dairy animals were exhibited, and twenty 4-H youth members participated

 

As part of the 4-H Fair Week, the Chester County 4-H Dairy Show was held on Friday, August 13, 2021, at the Romano 4-H Center of Chester County on Route 322 in Honey Brook. Thirty dairy animals were exhibited, and twenty 4-H youth members participated. This year the show was divided by dairy breeds and Judge Kyle Sollenberger of Pottstown did an outstanding job placing the animals and giving the 4-H members constructive feedback.

The day started with the showmanship and fitting contests. Judge Kyle Sollenberger worked the members and the animals to see how they held up under pressure. He had the experienced showmen switch animals to test their skills. In the Senior age group of 16 and older, Emma Williams of Glen Mills was top showman and Rosa Johnson of Elverson was top fitter. In the Senior 15-year-old division, Melissa Griswold of Chadds Ford was the top showman and Cameron Wallace of Exton was the top fitter. In our Junior Age division of 9 -11-year-olds, Bella Smith of Downingtown was the top showman and Max Teran of West Chester was the top fitter. Rounding out the contests, in the First Year Members Over 15 Years Old division. Congratulations go to Lucy Hahn of Kennett Square as top showman and Marieana Walker of Pottstown as top fitter. Top honors go to Cameron Johnson of Elverson for best showman and Emma Dechert of Pottstown as best fitter in our First Year Member 8 -14 Years Old division.

In the Ayrshire Breed, Cochranville’s Katelyn Nolan had the Grand Champion and the Junior Champion with fall calf Dreamnol Reagan Braylyn which was also the best Ayrshire owned and bred by the member. The Reserve Junior Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Ayrshire Dreamnol Reagan Gabrielle, a summer yearling, was owned and shown by Bella Smith. Katie Nolan’s Dreamnol Dreamer Brooklyn was Senior Champion and Bella Smith’s Dreamnol Makers Mark Gemma was Reserve Senior Champion.

In the Jersey Breed, Tyler Parsons of Pocopson had the Senior Champion and Grand Champion with his dry cow PMF Tequila Paisley; she was also the best Jersey owned and bred by a member. Max Teran was Reserve Grand Champion and Junior Champion with his heifer PMF Matt Poinsettia and Marieana Walker was Reserve Junior Champion with her heifer Darr-Lynn Chrome Madame.

In the Guernsey Breed, Tyler Parson was the Grand Champion with his 5-year-old cow Glen V DF Camille. The judge commented that this was a fine animal worthy of more competition.

In the Holstein Breed, Sophie Griswold of Chadds Ford was the Grand Champion, Senior Champion, and had the best bred and owned animal with her junior 2-year-old cow, Preble-Lane Jordy Ladybug. Cody Nolan of Cochranville was Reserve Champion and Reserve Senior Champion with his junior 2-year-old cow, Kodiak-Creek Bixby PiJi. In the Holstein calf entries, honors go to Melissa Griswold for her spring calf, Preble-Lane Cheers Ray that was Junior Champion and best junior animal owned and bred by the 4-H member. Wyatt Nolan of Oxford showed the Reserve Junior Champion, Lighthouse Moovin Heaven, a fall calf.

In the Red and White show, honors go to Cameron Johnson. His winter calf, Robug Redlight Cranberry-Red, was Grand Champion and Junior Champion. Emma William was Reserve Champion and Reserve Junior Champion with her spring yearling, EGW-Mill Rager Fancy-Red. Her dry cow, Ary-Back Drivn Felicity-Red, was Senior Champion.

In the Lineback Breed, Ellie Harrop of Exton was the Grand Champion with her winter calf, Hidden-Brook Sptrn Lark-RC. Evangeline Teran of West Chester was Reserve Champion with her spring calf, Pocopson Meadow Hill Lavender.

The judge selected Katelyn Nolan’s Ayrshire Dreamnol Reagan Braylyn as the Supreme Champion.

The Chester County 4-H Dairy Round-Up was one of the many shows that took place during the Chester County 4-H Fair Week, held August 9-14, 2021, at the Romano 4-H Center of Chester County along Route 322 just east of Honey Brook.
