Thanks to those of you who joined us for the Dairy Industry Call on Wednesday. Dr. Alex Hamberg, the State Veterinarian and Director of the Bureau of Animal Health for the PA Dept. of Agriculture, and Dr. Hayley Springer (Penn State Extension) provided updates on the rapidly evolving HPAI health situation affecting dairy cattle and Pennsylvania’s response — including the PA cattle interstate and international quarantine order guidelines. During the call, they also shared their top six things dairy producers should know and doabout the virus spread.

Weekly Calls Scheduled: After a hiatus next week, the Center for Dairy Excellence will be hosting weekly conference calls on Wednesdays in May at 1 p.m. EDT to share regular updates on this evolving situation. The next call will be May 1, 2024. Learn more about the calls and add them to your calendar.
Biosecurity Kits Available: The Center and Penn State are offering everyday biosecurity resource kits for producers. Penn State is also offering a series of open houses and a webinar to help walk producers through completing their biosecurity plan. Open Housesstart next Monday, April 22, with the opportunity to visit an extension office near you to receive help in developing your plan. For those who don’t have time to visit the extension office, Penn State will be providing a webinar on Wednesday, April 24, from 6 – 7 p.m. to walk folks through building a biosecurity plan.
