Earlier this year, the Dairy Nutrition Incentives Program Act was introduced in both chambers of Congress by U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), and U.S. Representatives Jim Costa (D-Calif.) and Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.).
The legislation builds on the Healthy Fluid Milk Incentives Projects (HFMI), a program that incentivizes the purchase of skim and 1% milk options among SNAP participants. The Dairy Nutrition Incentives Program Act would expand HFMI to include fuller fat varieties of milk, cheese, yogurt, and other nutritious dairy products.
