Dairy One recently welcomed two new managers to the cooperative. Dr. Gina Garland joined as the Forage and Soil Lab Manager, while Dr. Ben Weikert was named Director of Agricultural Consulting Services (ACS). Both individuals bring many years of experience to these roles and look forward to supporting customers.
“If this were baseball, I’d say we hit back-to-back home runs with the addition of Gina and Ben. Each of them brings experience, credibility, energy, and a fresh perspective to the team. I’m excited for what they will contribute to our continued evolution as a company,” said Jim Munroe, CEO of Dairy One.
Dr. Gina Garland has many years of experience working and leading in laboratories. Prior to joining Dairy One, she headed her own lab and team at ETH Zurich, exploring how potential contaminants from biosolid applications can influence plant, soil, and microbial functioning in agricultural systems. She has also done many experiments with analytical approaches to see how various management practices influenced crops and soil health.
“While there are many reasons I am excited to be here at Dairy One, I am especially grateful for the opportunity to apply what I have learned throughout these past decades on the farm and in the lab to help farmers here in our area and beyond make important management decisions based on precise, targeted results that we provide here in our labs,” said Dr. Garland.
Dr. Ben Weikert previously held the position of Professor and Department Chair of Animal and Natural Science at SUNY Cobleskill. In this position, he oversaw diverse faculty and staff and enjoyed mentoring students towards a bright future in agriculture. In addition, Ben has over 15 years of livestock farming and consulting experience, where he has been able to understand daily farm challenges while working with different industry support groups.
“With my experience overseeing large teams, aligning strategic goals, and driving continuous improvement, I am confident in my ability to lead ACS in expanding its market reach, operational efficiency, and client impact,” said Weikert.
“We hand-selected Gina and Ben because they are leaders in their respective fields, and they make an impact. We are blessed that the choice was mutual!” said Munroe.
