Free online episodes offer insights to help producers make informed decisions
Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW), announces the line-up of speakers for week 69 of The Dairy Signal™. Episodes this week will highlight ways to use financial data to boost operations, as well as updates on national dairy policy and market trends.
Carrie Pollard, Co-owner, Pollard Dairy, Rockford, Ill. and Technical Services Manager, Pipestone Veterinary Services, Dekalb, Ill., Stacy Eberle, Owner, Dairy Operator/Manager, EbAcres Orchestrated Dreams, Monroe, Wis., and Geoff Gerrits, Chief Financial Officer, Breeze Dairy Group, LLC, Pine River, Wis., will share how they get the most value from financial data to make informed decisions and improve aspects of the operation.
Paul Bleiberg, Senior Vice President, Government Relations, National Milk Producers Federation, will return to The Dairy Signal to provide an update on key dairy-related issues being discussed in Washington, D.C., and Dan Basse, Economist and President of AgResource Company will deliver his bi-weekly update on dairy pricing, market and trade news.
Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.

On the July 27 episode, Paul Marik, Captain of Patrol Division, Village of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., shared valuable information about issues with human trafficking in rural areas, including labor trafficking in agricultural jobs. He provided signs that dairy farms can watch for to prevent trafficking incidents in hiring and how to avoid challenging situations.
The “Rising Stars – Graduate Research Showcase” on July 28 featured updates on calcium research presented by UW-Madison researchers Meghan Connelly and Pedro Leopoldo Jeronimo Monteiro Junior. They shared data and insights from experiments to determine the impact of diet on calcium levels and other ongoing research. Dr. Paul Fricke, PhD, Dairy Reproduction Specialist with UW-Madison, returned to The Dairy Signal on July 29 to review research results and insights on how Body Condition Score impacts reproduction in dairy cows.
Each live session offers attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers through the interactive platform.

Tuesday, August 3
Topic: Financial data is necessary for taxes and lender requirements, but those uses represent only about 20 percent of their value to dairy managers. A panel of three savvy dairy producers will share how they put financials to work to better their operation. Episode presenters include:
