Select Sires Inc. has announced the hiring of Sophie Eaglen, PhD, as Associate Vice President of International Genetic Programs and Training. In this role, Eaglen will lead and support Select Sires’ international genetic advisors by providing strategic guidance, training and mentorship to develop the next generation of industry leaders.
Eaglen will be responsible for supporting the development of advanced genetic tools, training materials and educational content focused on genetic topics for both U.S. and global audiences. She will also conduct genetic training for international teams and provide sire analyst support within Europe to enhance the quality and diversity of Select Sires’ genetic offerings. In addition, Eaglen will engage with regulatory ministries and import/export officials to educate stakeholders about U.S. genetics and help mitigate trade barriers. She will further guide research initiatives related to future genetic investments and the development of integrated genetic development and marketing strategies.

Eaglen brings extensive experience in the bovine genetics industry. Since January 2019, she has worked with the National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB), where she supported and promoted U.S. genetics exports by addressing trade barriers on behalf of NAAB members, who represent approximately 95% of the U.S. artificial insemination industry. Her work included conducting international market assessments, organizing educational workshops, and authoring articles to clarify complex industry issues. As interim data manager, Eaglen also led improvements to the NAAB database and customer interface, significantly enhancing the user experience.
Eaglen earned her master’s degree in animal sciences from Wageningen University in 2009. She earned her PhD in quantitative genetics and served as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute.
