Speakers
Danelle Bickett-Weddle, DVM, MPH, PhD, DACVPM is a veterinarian with over 25 years of experience promoting livestock health through action. She contributed to the development of the Secure Milk and Beef Supply Plans and more recently, she consulted with NMPF in the creation of the FARM Biosecurity resources.
Dr. Rachel Cumberbatch is a veterinarian who integrates clinical expertise and public policy. She is the Vice President of Regulatory and International Affairs at the Animal Health Institute, a nonprofit trade organization representing manufacturers of animal health products. Dr. Cumberbatch earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 and Bachelors of Science in Animal Sciences in 2007, both from Purdue University.
Dr. Jamie Jonker is NMPF’s Chief Science Officer and Vice President of Sustainability & Scientific Affairs. Jonker is NMPF’s lead scientific expert on dairy issues ranging from animal health and sustainability to dairy farm biosecurity, air and water quality, and more. Jonker leads NMPF’s engagement with scientific groups such as the U.S. Animal Health Association, the International Dairy Federation (IDF), the World Animal Health Organization, and Codex Alimentarius.
Mitch Kappelman owns and operates Meadow Brook Dairy Farms LLC with his wife McKenzie, and parents Pete and Shellie Kappelman. The pair welcomed their daughter Jovie in August 2024. The fifth-generation dairy farm milks 380 registered Holsteins and 40 registered Brown Swiss cows, and farms about 1,000 acres. Mitch and McKenzie run the farm’s day-to-day operations and are employed off the farm. McKenzie works in the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic in Green Bay and Mitch is a Brown Swiss Sire Analyst for Select Sires. Mitch received the 2020 National Distinguished Young Brown Swiss and Young Holstein Breeder award. They were honored as the 2024 Grand Champion Forage Producer at the World Forage Analysis Superbowl at World Dairy Expo.
Miquela Hanselman, the moderator for this session, joined NMPF in 2019 as its director of regulatory affairs, leading NMPF’s regulatory-focused efforts on nutrition and public health, including the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. She is also the program lead for FARM Biosecurity, focused on protecting the health of dairy farmers’ herds and employees.
