Event to Focus on Reducing Fertilizer Costs with Manure Injection

Manure injection can capture more nutrient value from manure and save fertilizer costs

 

With significant increases in fertilizer costs for next year’s crops, it is important to look for every opportunity to reduce nutrient expenses. Capturing the maximum value from manure with manure incorporation is one important step that can provide financial benefits. A farmer meeting will be held at Shady Maple Smorgasbord on Monday December 6 starting at 10:00 am to review “The Economic and Environmental Benefits of Manure Injection.” The meeting will open with Penn State Extension Agronomists Heather Karsten and Leon Ressler discussing how to capture the most fertilizer value with manure injection. This will be followed by a farmer panel to discuss this topic. There will also be a Custom Operator Panel with those who offer this service including those who have horse drawn incorporation equipment available for rent. The Lancaster County Conservation District will discuss their program to assist with the cost of custom manure injection or rental of the horse drawn equipment which is funded by the Campbell Foundation. The event will conclude with a free lunch. The meeting is sponsored by The Lancaster County Conservation District, The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), and The Campbell Foundation. There is no charge to attend and walk ins are welcome.
